EVALUATING THE ADDED VALUE OF ONE HEALTH SURVEILLANCE FOR ANTIMICROBIAL USE AND RESISTANCE

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an emerging health issue of growing concern to health authorities nationally and internationally. In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted the Global Action Plan to Combat AMR. This plan emphasizes in particular the importance of setting up and strengthening effective and economically efficient surveillance systems, in a collaborative and comprehensive approach that takes human and animal health into consideration.

Our team is interested in two aspects of  One Health surveillance for AMR. First, we contribute to the development of tools and methodological approaches to evaluate these complex surveillance systems in collaboration with the Co-Eval AMR Network. Second, we apply these new methods for the evaluation of the Canadian Integrated Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Program (CIPARS).
